Adult Autism Assessment Training  and Adult ADHD Assessment Training for Clinicians - Adult Neurodevelopmental Assessment Training for Clinicians

Advanced training in Autism, ADHD and AuDHD and masking in late identified neurodivergent adults

Develop your clinical understanding of autism and ADHD presentations that can be difficult to recognise, particularly in adults who have spent years masking, compensating for their differences or adapting to expectations that obscure their underlying neurodevelopmental profile. This specialized training is designed for independently licensed clinicians seeking to deepen their knowledge and strengthen their approach to comprehensive adult neurodevelopmental assessment. With a focus on masking, camouflaging, compensatory strategies and late identification, the training explores how neurodevelopmental differences can present in complex and less immediately recognizable ways.

A more nuanced approach to neurodevelopmental assessment

Autism and ADHD do not always present in ways that are readily identified through brief screening measures, familiar diagnostic stereotypes or observations of outward functioning alone.

Some adults have developed sophisticated strategies to navigate social, academic, professional and interpersonal demands. Others have spent years experiencing difficulties without understanding their underlying causes. Their challenges may have been attributed to anxiety, depression, perfectionism, trauma-related responses or other explanations that do not fully account for their experiences.

Comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment requires a thoughtful, individualised approach that considers developmental history, current functioning, compensatory strategies, co-occurring conditions and the

broader context of a person's life. This training examines how clinicians can approach these complexities with greater depth, precision and clinical sensitivity.

Specialised focus on masking and late identification

Masking and compensation can make neurodevelopmental differences less visible, creating challenges for both the individual and the clinician conducting an assessment.

Training topics include:

Masking and camouflaging: Understanding how autistic and ADHD traits may be concealed, modified or compensated for in different settings.

Late-identified adults: Exploring developmental experiences and lifelong patterns that may not have been recognized as neurodevelopmental differences earlier in life.

Less immediately recognizable presentations: Looking beyond stereotypes and considering how traits can be expressed

differently across individuals and contexts.

Developmental history and lived experience: Integrating retrospective information, current experiences and longitudinal patterns into clinical understanding.

Overlapping presentations: Considering the relationship between autism, ADHD and co-occurring mental health concerns, including the importance of differential diagnosis.

Clinical complexity: Developing a more nuanced understanding of presentations in which screening results, outward functioning or a single source of information may not capture the full picture.

The aim is to support more informed clinical reasoning rather than relying on any single characteristic, questionnaire or assessment method.

Who is this training for?

This training is intended for independently licensed clinicians who conduct, or are developing their expertise in, adult neurodevelopmental assessment.

It may be particularly relevant to clinicians who:

Assess adults seeking clarification about possible autism, ADHD or both.

Encounter presentations in which masking or compensation may obscure underlying traits.

Work with adults who have reached later life without a clear explanation for longstanding difficulties.

Want to deepen their understanding of complex or less readily recognised presentations.

Seek to refine their clinical reasoning around developmental history, differential diagnosis and co-occurring conditions.

Want to develop a more comprehensive, individualised approach to adult neurodevelopmental assessment.

The training is intended for clinicians with an established professional foundation rather than as a substitute for

foundational clinical education, professional licensure or required assessment-specific qualifications.

A comprehensive approach to clinical understanding

Effective neurodevelopmental assessment involves more than identifying a collection of traits. It requires consideration of how those traits developed, how they manifest across contexts, what strategies a person has developed to manage them, and how they relate to the individual's overall functioning and history.

This training emphasises a thoughtful, evidence-informed approach to assessment that recognizes individual differences and the limitations of relying exclusively on standardized measures or stereotypical presentations.

Clinicians are encouraged to consider the person as a whole, integrating available information carefully and recognising uncertainty where the evidence does not support a definitive conclusion.

Deepen your assessment practice

If you are an independently licensed clinician seeking specialized education in comprehensive adult autism and ADHD assessment, this training offers an opportunity to explore the complexities of masking, compensation and late identification in greater depth.
