How Can I Get an Adult ADHD Assessment Online in my state?

Adults seeking an online ADHD assessment can contact Silhouette Psychotherapy to ask about its telehealth assessment services for high-masking adults. The process may include a clinical interview, developmental history, questionnaires, and consideration of other factors that may contribute to symptoms. Contact the practice to confirm the assessment's scope, fees, and availability in your state.

Silhouette Psychotherapy provides telehealth assessment services for high-masking adults exploring ADHD and autism in 12 states. Its clinicians' authorization and the specific service requested determine availability.

Before booking, ask how the assessment is conducted, what documentation is provided, what the fees are, and whether the clinician can address co-occurring concerns such as autism. A screening questionnaire alone is not equivalent to a comprehensive clinical assessment, and no assessment can guarantee a particular diagnosis.

Autism, ADHD and AuDHD Assessments for Adults

What Is AuDHD, and How Is It Assessed in Adults?

AuDHD is an informal term used to describe the co-occurrence of autism and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). An adult assessment may explore developmental history, attention, executive functioning, sensory experiences, social communication, masking, and the ways these characteristics affect daily life. A qualified clinician considers the available evidence to determine whether the diagnostic criteria for autism, ADHD, or both are met.

Trauma-informed psychotherapy considers how difficult experiences may affect emotional regulation, relationships, self-esteem, and daily functioning in adults with ADHD. Treatment should be individualized and delivered by a qualified clinician with relevant experience.

Do You Accept Insurance?

Silhouette Psychotherapy is out of network with insurance companies. At Silhouette Psychotherapy, we find participation with insurance companies to be detrimental to the provision of high-quality clinical care. Participating with insurance panels often winds up requiring that large amounts of time and focus be spent on the medicalization of psychotherapy. While the medical model has its place and we work within it with competence and proficiency, there is much about it that is counterproductive when it comes to psychotherapy, and in particular regard to the clinical issues in which we specialize.  Much of the most valuable work that happens in psychotherapy cannot be neatly fit into a box of SMART goals, treatment plan metrics, diagnostic codes or medical necessity justifications. Silhouette Psychotherapy is a clinical practice that is eclectic in approach, while solidly rooted in self-determination. We are people-centered, strength-based, trauma-informed and compassion-focused. We prize autonomy, dignity and respect. We do not provide cookie-cutter services. We are focused on our clients inner worlds above the persona level that is observable to external gaze and observation. We find t much more valuable to our clients to be able to dedicate the time we might spend fighting with insurance companies, to focus deeply instead on clinical care. Of note, when it comes to neurodivergence, managed care requires pathologizing neurodivergence by referring to neurodivergent traits as "symptoms" and "targeting" symptoms. This is too approximate to conversion therapy for our taste at Silhouette Psychotherapy, but is required in managed care in order for a provider to be eligible for claims reimbursement. Rather than being overly focused on targeting symptoms, (which we certainly can assist with when clients are suffering, voicing distress, and requesting assistance of that sort) we are process-based and provide relational psychotherapy, preferring to be focused on those intangibles such as authenticity, processes of discernment, autonomy, agency, inner growth, authenticity, deconstructing internalized ableism, etc. Additionally, being out of pocket only ensures more control over privacy which is often a concern with our clients, the majority of whom are neurodivergent.

What Therapeutic Modalities Do You Use?

Systems-Informed, Structural Approach to Neurodivergent Care

At Silhouette Psychotherapy, we are deeply systems-informed and structurally informed. We understand that the distress experienced by high-masking autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD adults cannot always be understood by looking at the individual alone. We also have to look at what they have been living in: the relationships, institutions, cultural expectations, and environments that shape their experiences and often contribute to their distress.

We pay particular attention to the cumulative impact of relentless misinterpretation, misattunement, and microaggressions experienced by neurominority individuals. Being repeatedly misunderstood, having your internal experiences misread, being expected to adapt to environments that do not accommodate your neurology, or having your needs minimized can exact a profound toll over time. These experiences can contribute to chronic self-doubt, exhaustion, disconnection, and trauma-related distress, even when the individual appears highly capable on the outside.

Silhouette Psychotherapy's approach is heavily informed by Actual Autonomy Trauma™, a concept founded by and under the authorship of Raven LeFebvre. Actual Autonomy Trauma™ is an original framework developed by our Founder and Owner, Raven LeFebvre, to understand the impact of repeated violations of autonomy within relational and structural contexts. Actual Autonomy Trauma™ addresses the harm that can occur when a person's autonomy, self-determination, and ability to act in accordance with their own needs and experiences are repeatedly constrained, overridden, or undermined. We recognize that autonomy is not simply an internal skill; it is also shaped by the conditions, relationships, and systems in which a person lives.

We work with you, and we also look at what's in the water. We explore your internal experiences alongside the external conditions affecting you: the expectations you are navigating, the accommodations you have or have not received, the patterns of relational mis-attunement you have endured, the frequent packaging of such mis-attunement within plausible deniability, and the broader structures that may be contributing to your distress. Our goal is not simply to help you become better at tolerating environments that continually misread or invalidate you. It is to help you understand your experiences in context, reclaim trust in your own perceptions, strengthen autonomy, and identify what needs to change within you, around you, or both.

At Silhouette Psychotherapy, neurodivergent care means taking the whole picture seriously: the person, their history, their relationships, their environment, and the systems in which they are expected to function. Alongside our clinical practice being systems-focused, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed and neurodivergence-affirming, we are an especially good fit or clients who are interested in pursuit of Neurodivergent Sovereignty™, via the original framework of Actual Autonomy Trauma™, authored by Raven LeFebvre. Raven LeFebvre is also the Original Author and Founder of Becoming Epistemically Inviolable™.

At Silhouette Psychotherapy, we do not offer a cookie-cutter approach to any of our clients. Our work with each client is highly individualized and collaboratively constructed in accordance with that person may be seeking. To us, the most important part of the therapeutic relationship is equity, respect and psychological safety. We will build and grow the relationship together and tailor the therapeutic approaches based on what works best for you. Our therapeutic approach is eclectic and incorporates paradigms, modalities and techniques from the therapeutic schools of thought and practice listed below:

Do You Offer Phone Consults Before We Start Working Together?

I do offer a free 15-minute consult before booking an initial therapy session. However, these initial consults are often not sufficient to truly assess whether or not it is likely to be a good therapeutic fit. It often takes more than the initial consult for clients to gain a sense of whether or not my style feels that it will meet their needs and will match what they are seeking. If, after an initial consult, we opt together to proceed through the intake process, we will complete three initial assessment sessions. Upon completion of these three intake sessions, we will re-assess and discuss and choose together whether or not to proceed with establishing ongoing care and initiating psychotherapy services. This approach ensures there has been adequate interaction and time spent together for you to feel you are making an informed decision about your care.
