NEURODIVERGENCE-AFFIRMING ASSESSMENT
Many adults spend years masking traits of ADHD or autism which can make it harder to feel truly seen by an assessor who is not specialized in contextualizing compensatory strategies. Our AuDHD assessments for adults provide a compassionate, trauma-informed clinical space to explore neurodivergence with understanding and clarity. We help those who have long hidden their differences gain meaningful validation and practical guidance for everyday life.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP

Understanding your neurodivergence can be life-changing. Schedule your adult AuDHD diagnostic assessment today to gain clarity, validation, and support for navigating your unique strengths and challenges.

Adults in Pennsylvania who have lived with undiagnosed neurodivergence often describe a persistent sense of exhaustion, confusion, and frustration. Everyday tasks may feel unusually challenging, social interactions can be draining, and environmental stimuli—noise, lights, or busy spaces—may easily become overwhelming. Many adults have spent years masking their differences, overcompensating, and performing “normally,” which can leave them with chronic fatigue and self-doubt. At Silhouette Psychotherapy, we offer trauma-informed, neurodivergence-affirming assessments for Autism, ADHD, and AuDHD, designed to provide clarity, validation, and practical strategies for living authentically.

We approach neurodivergence as a valid and valuable way of experiencing the world. Deficit-based or ableist models fail to capture the nuances of adult neurodivergence, particularly for those who were late-identified or who mask extensively. Our evaluations are structured to highlight both strengths and areas of challenge, ensuring a full and accurate understanding of each person’s unique cognitive and emotional profile.

The assessment process begins with a detailed intake, exploring developmental history, attention and focus patterns, sensory sensitivities, coping strategies, and daily challenges. Social, emotional, and occupational functioning are also considered, building a comprehensive picture of each adult’s lived experience. Executive functioning is assessed thoroughly, including working memory, task initiation, cognitive flexibility, planning, emotional regulation, and attentional control. These evaluations are trauma-informed, neurodivergence-affirming, and individualized to respect each client’s experiences.

Autism, ADHD, and AuDHD impact the brain in distinct ways. Autism can affect social interaction, sensory processing, communication, and emotional regulation, while ADHD impacts attention, time perception, executive functioning, and impulse control. AuDHD describes the co-occurrence of both conditions, often creating a complex interplay of hyperfocus paired with restlessness, sensory overload alongside under-stimulation, and emotional intensity coupled with difficulty regulating feelings. Traditional assessments frequently overlook this overlap, which is why our evaluations are uniquely designed to capture the full spectrum of experiences.

Adults in Pennsylvania often report being dismissed or misdiagnosed. Common experiences include hearing, “You’re too successful to be autistic,” “You’re just anxious,” or “You overthink everything.” Our process provides a validating space to explore these experiences, with detailed feedback on attention patterns, executive functioning, sensory profiles, and practical strategies for daily life, relationships, and work. Even when a formal diagnosis is not warranted, clients leave with insight, validation, and actionable guidance.

The benefits of a trauma-informed, neurodivergence-affirming assessment extend beyond clarity. Adults often report relief and greater self-compassion as they realize their struggles are neurological, not personal failings. Clients gain confidence to advocate for accommodations, implement routines that align with their natural functioning, and navigate life with less stress. Many adults report a sense of liberation from masking and overcompensation, leading to improved well-being.
Our private-pay model allows for flexibility, autonomy, and privacy. While we can provide a Superbill for potential reimbursement, insurance is not billed directly, giving clients control over their information and ensuring equitable access to care. This approach enables a thorough, individualized evaluation without systemic constraints.

Beyond the assessment, guidance may include therapy, coaching, or referrals to other neurodivergent-affirming providers. Evaluations provide a foundation for ongoing support in executive functioning, sensory management, emotional regulation, burnout recovery, identity exploration, and self-advocacy.

Concerns about labeling, stereotypes, or professional implications are common. An assessment does not impose a label but provides language, understanding, and validation. Even when a formal diagnosis is not assigned, insight into attention, executive functioning, sensory patterns, and coping strategies provides substantial value. Privacy is prioritized, and clients control how results are shared or documented.

The impact of a neurodivergence-affirming assessment is often profound. Adults frequently report relief, clarity, and empowerment. Understanding how ADHD, Autism, and AuDHD traits intersect enables individuals to leverage their natural strengths rather than work against them. Identifying overlapping traits helps answer long-standing questions about cognitive patterns, emotional regulation, and social interactions.

Our services are available online for adults throughout Pennsylvania, offering privacy and flexibility. The evaluation is structured into manageable sessions, tailored for high-masking and late-identified adults. Clients leave with comprehensive understanding, actionable strategies, and validation of their lived experience.

If you are ready to gain clarity, feel validated, and access strategies aligned with your neurological profile, we invite you to schedule a consultation. This process can help you stop masking, reclaim energy, and engage with life authentically.
